With recent hits like The Sea Beast, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, and Vivo under their belt, Netflix’s animated endeavors have proven to be successful. Up next, the streamer will release an animated adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. As first reported by Deadline, Olivia Colman, Luke Evans, and Jessie Buckley have been tapped to lead the film’s voice cast.
Along with the initial report comes a first look at the movie. Take a look below!
Per the initial report, Evans will voice Scrooge while Colman will portray the Ghost of Christmas Past. Buckley will voice a version of the Fezziwig character from the source material. Jonathan Pryce, Jacob Marley, Johnny Flynn, Fra Fee, Giles Terera, Trevor Dion Nicholas, and James Cosmo will lend their voice talents to the film as well. Stephen Donnelly (Monster High: Welcome to Monster High) will direct the feature. In a statement, Donnelly discusses the making of the film.
“It’s been a fascinating challenge to adapt such a beloved and often-told story and I think this version will give those who know A Christmas Carol all the things they expect but not as they’ve experienced them before,” he said. “There are more than enough psychedelic, time-traveling and musical surprises to keep those familiar with the story on the edge of their seats.”
Olivia Colman is one of the most revered actresses of her generation. She is the recipient of an Academy Award, three British Academy Television Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards. Up next, the British actress will appear alongside Samuel L. Jackson in Marvel’s Secret Invasion. Meanwhile, Scrooge reteams Luke Evans with Netflix after voicing the main character in The Sea Beast. Up next, the actor will star alongside Tom Hanks and Cynthia Erivo in Disney’s upcoming Pinocchio adaptation.
