The sequel to one of Netflix’s most popular movies has started work on casting for the upcoming project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Uma Thurman and Henry Golding have joined the cast of Charlize Theron’s The Old Guard 2.
Victoria Mahoney, who worked as the second unit director on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, is set to direct the sequel. She replaced Gina Prince-Bythewood, who led the first film but had to exit the new feature due to other commitments.
Thurman and Golding, whose roles are unknown, join Theron, who is set to reprise her role from the first film. The film will also feature original cast members KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Adapted from the comic of the same name by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, the film follows a group of immortal warriors who meet a new immortal. Eventually, the repercussions of their centuries-old lives begin to catch up to them in the present.
Rucka wrote the script for the sequel, which is set to adapt the second arc of the comic. The film’s producers include David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger of Skydance; Theron, Beth Kono, and AJ Dix via their banner, Denver and Delilah; Marc Evans via Marc Evans Productions; and Prince-Bythewood.
