Peter Gadiot To Play Shanks In Netflix’s Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Series

Netflix has found their captain of the Red Haired Pirate Crew. The streamer has announced that actor Peter Gadiot will portray the legendary pirate Shanks in the live-action One Piece series.
Shanks is the chief of the Red Haired Pirates and one of the Four Emperors that rule over the New World. A former member of the legendary Roger Pirates, he is the man that inspired the series protagonist Monkey D. Luffy to begin his pirate adventures. He was also the man who found the Gomu Gomu no Mi fruit that was eaten by Luffy, giving him his signature abilities.

Gadiot is known for his prior role as James Valdez in Queen of the South. He has also recently appeared in Yellow Jackets.
First published in 1997, One Piece is written and illustrated by Eichiro Oda. The series is still in print today and has spawned a massive media franchise, including an anime series that first aired in 1999, a number of films, and several video games. In 2021 One Piece became the best-selling manga series in history, with 490 million copies in circulation.
The series is set to star Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu Arata as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibbs as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. With production currently underway, it has not been announced when the show will debut on Netflix.
