Bill Murray To Star In Aziz Ansari’s Untitled Directorial Debut

Bill Murray is undoubtedly one of the most prolific actors of all time. Thanks to memorable tunes in films like Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day, the legend’s legacy is solidified. However, it appears that the comedian is showing no signs of slowing down. As first reported by Deadline, Murray will lead the cast of a new film in the works at Searchlight Pictures.
The currently untitled dramedy will notably mark the big-screen directorial debut of Parks and Recreation star Aziz Ansari. Per the initial report, Ansari will pull double duty and star in the film alongside Murray as well. Ansari wrote the script and will produce alongside Youree Henley (A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood).

The feature is based on surgeon Atul Gawande’s 2014 non-fiction book Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End. The story tackles the hardest challenge in a doctor’s line of work: how medicine can both heal and harm people. However, further details surrounding the plot, in addition to who Murray and Ansari are playing, are scarce at this time. In a statement, said Searchlight Pictures Presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield tout their excitement for the upcoming picture.
“Aziz Ansari is an incredible talent and, with this script, he brings a singular combination of insightful humor and pathos,” they said. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with him on his feature directorial debut which is long overdue, and of course working with the genius Bill Murray once again.”
Murray’s performance in Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation (2003) earned him a Golden Globe victory as well as an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. The cinematic icon also touts numerous accolades for his appearances in hit films like The Jungle Book, On The Rocks, and the HBO series Olive Kitteridge. Recently, Murray reprises his role as Dr. Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and will next make his MCU debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
