Eva Longoria is set to team with Disney to develop a live-action Paola Santiago and the River of Tears series for their streaming service. The project was announced during the Disney Branded Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.
Written by author Tehlor Kay Mejia, Paola Santiago and the River of Tears is published by Disney-Hyperion under the Rick Riordan Presents imprint. The book follows teenager Paola Santiago as she is thrust into the world of Latin folklore in the wake of her best friend’s disappearance. Inspired by the legend of La Llorona, the story features a number of monstrous legends and myths.
Kevin Rodriguez is set to write the series under Longoria’s UnbeliEVAble Entertainment banner. Rodriguez and Longoria will also executive produce alongside Ben Spector.
This is Longoria’s second project in development for Disney+. She is currently developing Carlos Hernandez’s Sal & Gabi Break the Universe as a television series.
