Dakota Johnson Cast As Marvel Hero ‘Madame Webb’

With Spider-Man: No Way Home webbing up the competition, Sony is looking to grow their interconnected universe sooner rather than later. Dakota Johnson has been tapped to play the titular role of Madame Webb in the upcoming film.
The film is to be the first female-led movie in the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters. It’s still unclear how this project will factor into Sony’s Universe or if it will connect to the greater MCU at all.

In the comics, Madame Web is depicted as an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis and thus was connected to a life support system that looked like a spider web. She gained the ability to interpret the “Web of Life” and how it connects to all living things. Spider-Man’s abilities stem from the Web of Life which is how the two heroes are connected. She is also heavily associated with the multiverse so her film has the potential to connect not only Tom Holland’s Peter Parker but his variants as well.
The Sony Universe of Marvel Characters has been quickly gaining traction in recent years; beginning with 2018’s Venom and it’s sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The upcoming Morbius starring Jared Leto will soon be apart of the universe as well. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has yet to officially join however, following a post-credits scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home Tom Hardy’s Venom is acutely aware of the wall-crawler.
The film has no release date at this time. Madame Webb will be directed by S.J. Clarkson.
