In 2020, filmmaker Bong Joon Ho made history when his film Parasite became the first non-English language to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. Since then, fans of cinema have clamored about what’s next from the accomplished director. Now, as first reported by Deadline, Joon Ho is eyeing a new untitled project currently in the works at Warner Bros.
Per the initial report, Joon Ho is in talks to write and direct a film based on Edward Ashton’s upcoming novel Mickey7. Additionally, The Batman star Robert Pattinson is in talks to lead the film’s cast as well. Bong Joon Ho will also reportedly produce the film alongside Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston’s Plan B Entertainment.
Mickey7 is a high-concept science fiction thriller in the same vein as The Martian and Dark Matter. The plot follows Mickey7, an Expendable. An Expendable is a disposable employee on a human expedition to colonize the planet Niflheim. Whenever a mission takes a turn for the worst, the crew turns to Mickey7, who dies and regenerates a new body with most of his memories intact. However, after dying a number of times, Mickey7 goes missing and is presumed dead. Upon his return, he meets his replacement, Mickey8.
Bong Joon Ho currently serves as an executive producer for the hit television series Snowpiercer. Additionally, the filmmaker is actively developing a series adaptation of his hit film Parasite for HBO. Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson recently starred in hit films like Tenet, The King, and The Lighthouse. Up next, Pattinson will don the iconic cowl of the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
