Following the late October news that Jeff Nichols would no longer sit in the director’s chair for the next A Quiet Place film, Paramount has wasted no time searching for his replacement. According to an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, the production company has its sights set on Michael Sarnoski to handle its latest chapter of disquieting horror.

Aside from the knowledge that this latest entry is not a direct follow-up to the previous Abbot family-led films, plot details are scarce. However, Sarnoski will reportedly expand on an original idea from John Krasinski. The film will set up a whole new sector of A Quiet Place stories, à la The Cloverfield Paradox. Additionally, despite Jeff Nichols completing the script for his film before departing the project, it is unknown how much of his creative input will be used in Sarnoski’s version.

In just one summer, Sarnoksi has become the indie director who could. With the release of his Nicolas Cage-starring Pig in 2021, Sarnoski corralled a new career-best out of the prolific actor and launched his own name into Tinseltown’s stratosphere.

What makes the director such a brilliant selection for the role isn’t his malleability as a creator-on-the-rise. It’s how well he taps into the deeper thematic nuance of the universe. What made A Quiet Place, and its sequel, such a beloved hit isn’t the sci-fi hell hounds barreling toward their victims with merciless precision. Instead, it was the family attempting to survive them. Moreover, with Pig, Sarnoski transcends the rote idea of the “man seeking revenge” genre by creating something wholly unique and gut-wrenching. All this to say, don’t expect an ordinary thriller with him at the helm.
