Gael García Bernal To Star In ‘Werewolf By Night’ Halloween Special

Marvel Studios has reportedly found its star for its upcoming Disney+ Halloween special. According to The Wrap, Gael García Bernal has been tapped to play Werewolf by Night.
Two different characters have used the name Werewolf by Night in the comics, including Jack Russell and Jake Gomez. Russell was created by Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway, and Mike Ploog. He first appeared in Marvel Spotlight #2 in 1972. The character descends from a line of werewolves that were created by Dracula himself, who cursed the family. Meanwhile, Gomez debuted in 2020’sWerewolf by Night #1 by Taboo, Benjamin Jackendoff, and Scot Eaton. Gomez is a member of the Hopi Native American tribe whose family was cursed with lycanthropy. It is currently unclear which version will serve as inspiration for the special.

Bernal most recently starred in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old. He is also known for his previous roles in Netflix’s Wasp Network and Mozart in the Jungle, for which he won a Golden Globe.
The Werewolf by Night Halloween special is reportedly set to bring production in early 2022. No further casting has been announced for the project, so stay tuned for further updates.
This marks Marvel Studios’ second holiday-themed special following the announcement of 2022’s The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The special is also one of the many projects Marvel has in the works for Disney+. As of now, the studio has a number of series in development, including Hawkeye, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, Ironheart, and Armor Wars.
