While it has been rumored for some time now that a Thunderbolts project is in the works, fans finally have some additional information. According to Geeks WorldWide, a movie adaptation of the property is set to begin production in 2023.
Created by Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley in 1997, the team debuted in The Incredible Hulk #449. Originally presented as a new team of superheroes to replace the Avengers, it was revealed that they were actually the supervillain group, the Masters of Evil in disguise. Over time the team would redeem themselves and become true heroes. The team would eventually go through different iterations with various new members.
The team has had a number of different members in the comics, so it remains unconfirmed who will form the MCU’s version of the team. It seems likely that the group is already being set up by Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who has already recruited U.S. Agent, aka John Walker, and Yelena Belova. Other potential members from the comics that could join the team include Baron Zemo, Hawkeye, Ghost, Taskmaster, and General Ross.
No official plot has been revealed for the project, but hopefully, new details will emerge as production draws near. It is clear that Marvel has been setting the seeds for the team in their previous projects, so it will be interesting to see it all come to frution.
