As the streaming wars rage on; the wasteland that used to be network television feels like a distant memory. Over the sandy dunes rises some aca-awesome news. Peacock has ordered a new series based on the hit franchise Pitch Perfect starring series star Adam Devine.
The show will follow Bumper Allen (Devine) after he moves to Germany to revive his music career after one of his songs becomes big in the country. Bumper was the main antagonist in the first film before becoming the love interest of Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) in Pitch Perfect 2. The character was written out of the third one following the eventual breakup from Fat Amy. It’s unknown if other characters from the show will be appearing in the new series.
Here’s what Susan Rovner. chairman of entertainment content for NBCUniversal Television had to say about the show:
“Our upcoming series is another example of the unmatched synergy NBCUniversal is able to expand upon with our wide-ranging library of IP. When we saw the opportunity to create a series for ‘Pitch Perfect’ with Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman and Paul Brooks plus more earworm classics for super fans to enjoy, we jumped at it. And to top it off, we are so fortunate that Adam Devine is headlining the series and bringing fans the quirky, laugh-out-loud sensibility they loved in the film franchise.”
The series will be written by Megan Amram who will also executive produce the show along with Elizabeth Banks. Banks had a minor role in all three films as well as producing and even directing the second installment.
