Marvel Eying Latino Lead For ‘Werewolf By Night’ Disney+ Halloween Special

Marvel Studios is reportedly expanding its presence on Disney+ with a new special. According to The Wrap, they are actively seeking a Latino lead to cast in an untitled Halloween Special for the streamer. The studio is looking to cast a Latino male in his 30s to star in the project, set to begin production in early 2022. According to The Wrap, the character may be based on Werewolf by Night.
Two different characters have used the name Werewolf by Night in the comics, including Jack Russell and Jake Gomez. Russell was created by Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway, and Mike Ploog. He first appeared in Marvel Spotlight #2 in 1972. The character descends from a line of werewolves that were created by Dracula himself, who cursed the family. Meanwhile, Gomez debuted in 2020’s Werewolf by Night #1 by Taboo, Benjamin Jackendoff, and Scot Eaton. Gomez is a member of the Hopi Native American tribe whose family was cursed with lycanthropy. It is currently unclear which version will serve as inspiration for the special.

As of now, the studio has a number of series in development, including Hawkeye, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, Ironheart, and Armor Wars.
