‘Black Canary’ Project Reportedly In The Works At Warner Bros.

It looks like one of the break-out stars of DC’s Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) will finally get the spotlight. According to insider Daniel Richtman, there is a Black Canary project in the works.
Created by Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino in 1947, the original version of Black Canary debuted in Flash Comics #86. Multiple iterations of the superheroine have appeared in DC Comics, including the first Canary, Dinah Drake, as well as Dinah Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake-Lance. The character is typically depicted as a member of the Justice League and has become one of DC’s most iconic heroes over the years.

Jurnee Smollet portrayed the character in 2020’s Birds of Prey alongside Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Huntress. Her portrayal received praise from critics and audiences alike, with many hoping for a solo project in the future. Now, based on this new report, it seems it is finally happening.
Richtman did not specify whether the project would be in the form of a television series or a film, so for now, that remains up for speculation. Additionally, it is unknown if the project will be theatrical or premiere on HBO Max like the upcoming Batgirl and Zatanna films.
Are you excited to see Jurnee Smollet return as Black Canary in her own project? Would you prefer it to be a show or a movie? Let us know in the comments below!
