REPORT: ‘Doom Patrol’ Star Timothy Dalton May Not Appear In Season 3
HBO Max’s Doom Patrol may be missing a key character when the show returns for its third season later this year. According to Lance Ausfresser of the Doom Patrol Facebook Group, Timothy Dalton did not join the production of the latest installment of the DC superhero series due to the pandemic.
The former Bond actor plays Niles Caulder, the morally questionable leader of the Doom Patrol team that appears often in the series. Although his story has always been vital to the overall narrative, Season 2 revolved entirely around the introduction of his daughter, Dorothy Spinner, played by Abigail Shapiro. In fact, the finale included a major cliffhanger that featured both characters in what was supposed to be the climax of the season before the pandemic caused production to shut down. Dalton’s decision to not join the rest of the cast for Season 3 appears to be a move that puts his health first before work. It’s unclear if Dalton provided voice work instead, but it would not be shocking if he is simply written off the show for just one season.

The third season wrapped production in early June and looks to debut on HBO Max in the Fall. While it was rumored a late-August release window was likely, a definitive date remains to be seen. Despite Dalton’s reported absence in the upcoming season, expect a lot in store for the fan-favorite team of misfits. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Michelle Gomez joins the series as Madame Rogue, a villain described as a complicated and electrifying eccentric who arrives at Doom Manor with a very specific mission, if only she could remember it. Additionally, Sebastian Croft and Ty Tennant have been as the Dead Boy Detectives, while key Brotherhood of Evil members The Brain and Monsieur Mallah are slated to appear in the upcoming season.
