One of the biggest highlights of the very first DC FanDome event last summer was the presentation of Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Many fans took to social media afterward to gush over the passion the filmmaker exudes when speaking about the Dark Knight. Now, as first revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, the director is expanding his take on Batman with a new animated series, titled Batman: Caped Crusader, greenlit by HBO Max.
Reeves will create and develop the series alongside J.J. Abrams. Additionally, longtime DC Comics and animation producer Bruce Timm is on board to executive produce the series as well. Receiving a straight-to-series order from HBO Max and Cartoon Network, the series is described as “a reimagining of the Batman mythology.”
In a joint statement, Abrams and Reeves talk about their excitement to bring Batman: Caped Crusader to life.
“We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back. And to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City,” said Abrams and Reeves. “The series will be thrilling, cinematic, and evocative of Batman’s noir roots while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world.”
