Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, & Yana Perrault To Star In The CW’s ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Series

Upon its initial announcement, fans were curious which three actresses could embody older versions of the iconic characters from the classic animated series The Powerpuff Girls. Now, thanks to Variety, fans have that answer. Per the initial report, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Chloe Bennett will join The Descendents star Dove Cameron and Broadway’s Yana Perrault as the titular superheroines.
Bennet is playing Blossom while Cameron and Perrault will portray Bubbles and Buttercup, respectively. Coincidentally, Bennett and Cameron are familiar with each other after going head-to-head in season five of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Moreover, the series marks Perrault’s onscreen debut after appearing on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning Jagged Little Pill.

Originally created by Craig McCracken, the show ran for 78 episodes from 1998 to 2005. The series featured a super team of little girls accidentally created by Professor Utonium when he combined sugar, spice, and everything nice with the mysterious Chemical X. The sequel series will be an updated version of the show with the heroes now disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime-fighting. In the series, viewers will have to see if the team can reunite now that the world needs them now more than ever.
The Powerpuff Girls pilot hails from writers and executive producers Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody. While it is not yet received a full series order, the casting of three multitalented performers could sway the creative forces at The CW Network to give it the greenlight. Additionally, Greg Berlanti (Supergirl), Sarah Schechter (Free Guy), and David Madden (Save The Last Dance) will executive produce as well. Warner Bros Television has tapped Maggie Kiley (Some Boys Don’t Leave) will direct the pilot.
