Ray Fisher Joins ABC’s Limited Event Series ‘Women Of The Movement’

One of the most polarizing figures of the last year is Justice League star, Ray Fisher. After coming forward with allegations of racist and discriminatory behavior from the likes of Joss Whedon and Geoff Johns, Fisher has been at the center of an ongoing investigation at Warner Bros. While the actor pushes back against hateful and inappropriate behavior happening behind the camera, he has also lined up his next starring role in front of it. As first reported by Deadline, Fisher will star in the upcoming ABC limited series Women Of The Movement.
The series hails from The Handmaid’s Tale writer Marissa Jo Cerar. Additionally, Jay-Z, Will Smith, and The Unicorn producer Aaron Kaplan will executive produce the project. Fisher joins the previously cast Glynn Turman (The Wire) and Niecy Nash (Claws) in the show’s ensemble.
The six-episode series will follow Mamie Till-Mobley, portrayed by Adrienne Warren (Orange Is the New Black), the mother of Emmett Till, portrayed by Cedric Joe (Modern Family). Following the brutal torture and murder of Emmett, Mamie devotes her life to seeking justice for her son within the horrific Jim Crow South. Fisher will portray Gene Mobley, the man who would have been Emmett’s stepfather.

In a statement accompanying the original report, Fisher expresses gratitude to be a part of this powerful story.
“It is an honor to be joining Women Of The Movement’s powerful portrayal of Mamie Till-Mobley’s journey,” Fisher said. “To be in service of her story with so many talented women of color at the helm is truly a privilege. Mrs. Till-Mobley’s actions inspired the fight for fundamental change in our country, and her legacy will continue to serve as a much-needed reminder that a single person can indeed change the world.”
Up next, Fisher will reprise his role as Cyborg for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, streaming on HBO Max in March. Best known for his incredible stage work, Fisher also appeared alongside Mahershala Ali in season three of HBO’s True Detective.
