Kevin Hart & Wesley Snipes To Star In Netflix Limited Series ‘True Story’

As Netflix continues to lead the streaming wars in the amount of original content category, two of the most recognizable names in Hollywood will next team with the media giant. As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, a new limited series is in development with Kevin Hart and Wesley Snipes on-board to lead the cast.
Per the initial report, the series, titled True Story, hails from Narcos: Mexico executive producer Eric Newman. In the drama, Hart will play a fictionalized version of himself. Set in Philadelphia, the story will follow Hart’s character named Kid and his troubled older brother Carlton (Snipes). When Kid’s comedy tour takes him back to his hometown, a run-in with his big brother becomes a matter of life and death when the evening goes too far. The twists and turns threaten to dismantle the million-dollar empire Kid has spent years building for himself.

Hart will also serve as one of the show’s executive producers via his HartBeat Productions banner. Additionally, Charles Murray (Luke Cage) boards the project as the series showrunner with Stephen Williams (Watchmen) and Hanelle Culpepper (Gotham) splitting director duties. In a statement, Hart expresses his excitement to work alongside Wesley Snipes on such a personal story.
“I’ve never been more excited about an acting project in my career,” Hart said. “I’ve always been a fan of Wesley Snipes and working with him is mind-blowing. Having HartBeat Productions at the helm and working alongside Eric Newman as a partner and creative arm has been unreal. Nobody is ready for what this show is going to be.”
The new series will continue Hart’s ongoing working relationship with Netflix. Recently, Hart appeared in a docuseries titled Kevin Hart: Don’t F**k this up and a standup comedy special for the streamer. Up next, the actor will star alongside Woody Harrelson in The Man from Toronto and team with Will Smith for a Planes, Trains, & Automobiles remake. Meanwhile, Snipes is no stranger to Netflix in his own right. The legendary actor starred alongside Eddie Murphy in Dolemite Is My Name. Moreover, Snipes will next appear on the big screen in Murphy’s Coming 2 America.
