Live-Action ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Series Reportedly In Development At Netflix

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise is reportedly taking another shot at live-action. According to insider Daniel Richtman, a live-action series based on the video game is in development at Netflix.
The first game in the franchise was released in November of 2007, launching a massively successful universe of games, including eleven installments. The stealth-based adventure game follows the millennia-old struggle between the Assassins and Templars. Featuring a blend of historical fiction and sci-fi elements, the franchise has explored various time periods and famous figures.

The first game in the franchise primarily took place during the Third Crusade and followed Altaïr’s struggle against the Templars to obtain the Apple of Eden. Richtman did not reveal if the series will adapt this first Assassin’s Creed game or if it will be an original story.
This is not the first attempt at developing a live-action version of the game. The 2016 Assassin’s Creed film starring Michael Fassbender expanded the series’ mythology and took place during the Spanish Inquisition. It not only received negative reviews from critics and audiences but also underperformed at the box office.
There is no official word on the series creative team or casting, so fans should stay tuned for more. Hopefully, they can expect an announcement from the streamer as development on the show continues.
