Keira Knightley To Star In & Produce ‘The Essex Serpent’ At Apple TV+

Whether its a big-budget blockbuster or a smaller indy film, Keira Knightley never fails to impress the masses. Up next, as first reported by Deadline, the British actress will star in and produce a new series titled The Essex Serpent in development at Apple TV+.
The upcoming series is based on the 2016 novel with the same name by author Sarah Perry and set in the year 1893. The project follows the recently widowed Cora following liberation from an abusive marriage. As she relocates to from the lavish Victorian-era London to a smaller village of Aldwinter in Essex, shes grows enamored by a local superstition that claims a mythical creature dubbed the Essex Serpent is returning. The book won the British Book Awards for 2016 Book of the Year and touts over 280,000 copies sold worldwide.

Knightley will star in the period drama as the aforementioned Cora. Additionally, The Selfish Giant director Clio Barnard is on-board to helm the project with a script adapted by Deep Water scribe Anna Symon. Moreover, Knightley will produce alongside Jamie Laurenson (My Week With Marilyn), Hakan Kousetta (Hysteria), and Iain Canning (Lion). The series hails from See-Saw Films (The King’s Speech) and earned a straight-to-series order from Apple.
Perhaps best known for playing Elizabeth Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, Knightley is a rather acclaimed actress. Her roles in films like Pride & Prejudice and The Imitation Game have earned her nominations for two British Academy Film Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and two Academy Awards. Her recent credits include the biographical drama Colette and Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Up next, Knightley will appear beside JoJo Rabbit star Roman Griffin Davis in Silent Night.
