In a major surprise for fans, it was revealed that Warner Bros. is looking to develop a Static Shock movie. During the Surprise DC Comics Panel, it was revealed that a feature-length film is in early discussions.
Created by Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis, and Derek T. Dingle, Static made his debut in Static #1 in 1993. After being exposed to a radioactive chemical, Virgil Hawkins developed metahuman powers. The young hero found he could control and generate electromagnetic forces.
It seems that discussions are still in very early stages, but there is interest in the project. Based on comments made during the panel, it seems the film will be a live-action feature; however, it is possible it could be animated. For now though, fans will have to wait for further updates on the movie.
The reveal came along with the announcement that DC is officially relaunching its Milestone imprint. Included in this relaunch is a new Static Shock OGN and a digital series.
