Jason Bateman To Helm Warner Bros. ‘Superworld’

Game Night‘s Jason Bateman and Mark Perez have reteamed for a foray into the world of superheroes. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bateman has signed on to direct Superworld.
Based on the recently released novel by Gus Krieger, Superworld is set in the year 2038, where every person on the planet has superpowers, except for one man named Ignatius Lohman. Lohman is stuck in a white-collar job while his father is one of the most powerful people in the world and the leader of the defense organization Peerless. Lohman ultimately has to step up when he is forced to face off with a corporate overlord who has the power to neutralize anyone with a superpower.

Warner Bros. recently picked up the rights to the book with Bateman set to direct while Perez will write the screenplay. The duo previously worked together on New Line’s hit film Game Night. Perez has also reunited with Bateman to work on the untitled family comedy set in an abandoned movie studio for Netflix.
In addition to Superworld, Bateman has filled his slate with a number of projects and is in talks to helm Simon Kinberg’s Here Comes the Flood at Netflix. Recently Bateman was nominated for an Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a drama for his work on Ozark.
