Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye is starting to assemble its creative team. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rhys Thomas and Bert and Bertie will direct multiple episodes of the Disney+ series.
Rhys Thomas, best known for his work on Saturday Night Live, will direct a block of episodes for Jeremy Renner’s solo outing as Clint Barton. Thomas has previously directed Staten Island Summer, as well as Comrade Detective and John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch. Joining Thomas are Amber Finlayson (Bert) and Katie Ellwood (Bertie), who handled Amazon’s coming-of-age comedy, Troop Zero. Similar to Thomas, Bert and Bertie will captain several entries of the Marvel Studios series.
The series will star Renner in the lead as Clint Barton. Hawkeye will feature Clint training a new hero, Kate Bishop. Currently, Marvel has not cast an actress in the role; however, Hailee Steinfeld was previously in talks. Jonathon Igla who has previously worked on Mad Men and Pitch is writing the series.
Hawkeye is part of the first group of shows Marvel is launching for Disney+. The original plan was for them to start rolling out in the fall of 2020, but the spread of COVID-19 caused work on some to be delayed. As of now, the plan is for WandaVision and Loki to premiere in Spring 2021, then Hawkeye. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s release date is currently unknown.
