‘Sonic The Hedgehog 2’ In The Works At Paramount Pictures

Sonic the Hedgehog is currently the second-highest-grossing film of 2020. However, despite the short tenure in theaters and the lack of active competition due to COVID-19, fans and critics alike gave the film mostly positive feedback. As first reported by Variety, a sequel to the film is in development at Paramount Pictures.
Per the initial report, the sequel will reteam the original team Jeff Fowler as director and Pat Casey and Josh Miller penning the script. However, while no casting announcements exist, Ben Schwartz, who voiced Sonic in the film, reacted positively to the news on Twitter. Additionally, his co-star James Marsden revealed in March that he had already signed on for multiple Sonic films. Additionally, Sega executives Hajime Satomi and Haruki Satomi will serve as executive producers alongside Deadpool director Tim Miller.

Moviegoers who stuck around for the end of Sonic saw that future installments were always intended. Jim Carrey’s Robotnik is now canonically sporting his classic look, Sonic has found a permanent home on Earth, and Tails has made his way to the same planet. Longtime Sonic fans hope to see classic characters like Shadow or Knuckles on the big-screen in the future.
