It appears Warner Bros. is looking to develop its follow-up to a classic ’80s comedy. According to insider Daniel Richtman, Michael Keaton is in talks to return for Beetlejuice 2.
It has long been rumored that Warner Bros. was interested in developing a sequel to the cult classic with Keaton. However, this is the first report of any discussions taking place between the studio and the actor.
In addition to Keaton’s potential return, Richtman’s also reports that the studio is interested in having Tim Burton return to helm the project, though no formal conversations have begun with the director.
The sequel has enlisted Mike Vukadinovich to pen the script, stepping in for David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith. Katzenberg, Grahame-Smith and Aaron Schmidt are all signed on to produce the project. As of now, there isn’t a timetable in place for when shooting will begin amid concerns about the coronavirus pandemic. So, for now, the studio appears focused on assembling the cast of the sequel starting with Keaton.
