Tobey Maguire & Michael B. Jordan Eyed For Damien Chazelle’s ‘Babylon’

Damien Chazelle is looking to assemble quite the cast for his next feature Babylon. According to insider Daniel Richtman, Meryl Streep, Michael B. Jordan and Tobey Maguire are being eyed for the upcoming project.
The Paramount Pictures feature is set in 1920s Hollywood and follows the rise and fall of various real and fictional characters as the film industry transitions into the sound era of talkies. It was announced in November that Emma Stone and Brad Pitt are already in negotiations for lead roles.
Streep is being eyed to play Elinor Glyn in a supporting role. Described as “Hollywood’s dowager duchess,” Glyn is a famous screenwriter, author, and gossip columnist who popularized the concept of “It -girl” and launched Stone’s character Clara Bow into superstardom along with many others.

Jordan is being looked at to play the fictional character Sidney Palmer, an incredibly talented and hot-headed trumpeter who is part of an all-Black brass band. The character is loosely inspired by legendary musician Louis Armstrong.
Lastly is Maguire, who is being eyed for the role of Irving Thalberg. Described as reserved, intense and brilliant as he is one of the only people that survived the transition from silent films to talkies, he is a powerful studio executive who runs production for MGM.
Babylon still has several roles left to cast, but the studio is already on its way to assembling an all-star cast. Chazelle will direct and pen the script for the movie. Marc Platt, Olivia Hamilton, Matt Plouffe, and Maguire will produce the project.
