‘National Treasure’ TV Series In Development At Disney+

Fans of National Treasure are in luck as it was just revealed the franchise is looking to expand. According to Collider, a television series is currently in development at Disney+.
During an interview with Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer revealed a few updates about the franchise. Bruckheimer announced that they are working on one National Treasure for streaming and one for theatrical release.
“We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active….The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast.”

An interesting detail to note is that the series will not feature the cast of the films, so it sounds like it will exist parallel to the movies. However, as Collider noted, perhaps the series could feature Nicolas Cage in a mentor role on the show.
In addition to the series, Bruckheimer also commented on the previously confirmed National Treasure 3. The film is currently being written, and it sounds like it will release in theaters rather than on Disney+, as some theorized.
“The film version is being written right now. The television version is in process. We have a pilot script done and an outline of the future episodes.”
Currently, Jon Turtletaub is attached to direct with Bad Boys for Life writer Chris Bremner penning the script.
