Dwayne Johnson & Issa Rae Developing Wrestling Series For HBO

Dwayne Johnson seemingly always has a plethora of new film and TV projects in the works. From his big-screen adventures set in the Fast & Furious franchise to his HBO series Ballers, Johnson’s work ethic provides hours and hours of entertainment for the actor’s fanbase. As first reported by Variety, Johnson will next team with Insecure creator Issa Rae to develop a new series for HBO.
The series, currently titled TRE CNT, was written by Here & Now scribe Mohamad El Masri. The series will reportedly focus on a character named Cassius Jones. Jones is a dock worker and struggling independent professional wrestler. After inheriting life insurance money from his grandfather, Jones decides to start a hip hop-centric, backyard wrestling promotion in Houston alongside his family and friends.

Rae and Johnson will produce the series through Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions with his frequent collaborators Dany and Hiram Garcia. The series joins the current boom in professional wrestling TV shows like GLOW and Stephen Amell’s upcoming Heels.
Issa Rae currently stars on HBO’s Insecure. She has received two Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress as well as a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. Next, the filmmaker will star alongside Kumail Nanjiani in the upcoming Netflix film The Lovebirds.
Moreover, Johnson remains one of the busiest men in Hollywood. In addition to his upcoming DCEU film Black Adam and the development of Hobbs & Shaw 2, the actor will produce an NBC series based on his own life titled Young Rock. Additionally, Johnson remains loyal to his professional wrestling roots while actively developing a biopic about the 16-time World Champion Ric Flair.
