‘Doogie Howser’ Reboot In Development At Disney+

When Disney launched its very own streaming service late last year, it was done with the promise of new and exciting content. So far, Disney+ delivered original films like The Lady & The Tramp and new series like The Mandalorian. However, as first reported by Variety, a reboot of the classic series Doogie Howser, M.D. will soon join Disney’s litany of original programming.

Debuting in September of 1989, Doogie Howser, M.D. ran for four seasons. Starring a young Neil Patrick Harris, the series followed a teenage physician balancing the challenge of practicing medicine with the everyday problems faced by teenagers simultaneously.

Per the initial report, the reboot will now feature a female lead. The new star will reportedly be a half-Asian, half-white teenager working as a doctor in Hawaii. Kourtney Kang, best known for her work on How I Met Your Mother and Fresh Off The Boat, will serve as the series showrunner. Additionally, Jumani: The Next Level director Jake Kasdan and his longtime collaborator Melvin Mar are on-board as executive producers.

This reboot will follow the likes of the Home Alone and Turner & Hooch franchises in receiving the reboot treatment at Disney+. At this time, no actresses are being eyed to star in the Doogie Howser reimagining.
