George Miller Reportedly Met With Anya Taylor-Joy For ‘Furiosa’ Spinoff

In the wake of shutdowns following the spread of Coronavirus, many films have been hit with production delays. However, some executives are working around the obstacles. According to Variety, director George Miller has met with Anya Taylor-Joy for his Furiosa spinoff.
It was recently reported that Warner Bros. had begun development on a Mad Max spinoff focused on a young Furiosa. Following that report, it was revealed that Killing Eve star Jodie Comer was being eyed to star in the film. Now it seems the search for the film’s lead is still ongoing as Miller has met with several names including Taylor-Joy.

It was not revealed who else Miller has met with beyond Taylor-Joy, but it does give us some insight into the film’s casting progress. Both Comer and Taylor-Joy are hot names in Hollywood as the latter has most recently starred in the critically acclaimed Jane Austen adaptation Emma.
In addition to the actress cast as the young Furiosa, the film is also eyeing Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Richard Madden for lead roles. Similar to Comer and Taylor-Joy, Abdul-Mateen II and Madden are big names with the former starring in the Candyman reboot and the latter in Marvel Studios’ Eternals.
According to reports, Miller hopes to begin shooting the spinoff next year in 2021. It is unclear how far along in development the project is. It was previously reported that legal disputes between Miller and Warner Bros. had delayed the development of the fifth film in the franchise.
