Jodie Comer Reportedly Eyed To Play Furiosa In ‘Mad Max’ Spinoff

This weekend, reports that Warner Bros had a Mad Max prequel film in development surfaced. While details on the film remain scarce, it will revolve around a young Furiosa and her upbringing. As first reported by Geeks WorldWide, Killing Eve star Jodie Comer is the top choice to play the femme fatale in the upcoming spinoff.
Per the initial report, Comer tops the list to take the role made famous by Charlize Theron in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. After the critical and commercial success of Mad Max: Fury Road, filmmaker George Miller expressed his desire to develop two more films in the franchise. While one film will serve as a sequel to Tom Hardy’s Fury Road, Miller also wishes to create a spinoff starring Charlize Theron’s Furiosa. However, the decision was reportedly made to focus on a younger version of Furiosa with the studio electing to recast the role. At this time, there is no word on just how young Furiosa will be in the film. However, it is worth noting that Comer will turn 27 this month while Theron is only 44.
Recently, Comer’s career is skyrocketing. Her role in Killing Eve earned her Best Actress nominations at the Critic Choice and Golden Globe Awards. The multi-talented actress also briefly appeared in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as Rey’s mother in a flashback scene. Playing an extremely well-known and celebrated hero like Furiosa will further cement Comer’s place in modern-day Hollywood.

Additionally, Richard Madden has also been courted for the film as well. If cast, Madden would play an extremely handsome man with a deeply scarred forehead. This role would follow Madden’s recent slew of big roles. The actor appeared in 2019’s Rocketman and 1917. Moreover, the Scottish performer will play Ikaris in Marvel Studios’ upcoming film The Eternals. Furthermore, Watchmen star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will reportedly star in the film as well.
Mad Max: Fury Road is a 2015 post-apocalyptic action film co-written, produced, and directed by George Miller. The film serves as the fourth installment and reboot for the original Mad Max series featuring Mel Gibson. The film starred Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron and won six Academy Awards at the 2016 ceremony. Miller is expected to return as director when production begins at the end of the year.
