Adam Sandler To Star In LeBron James’ ‘Hustle’ On Netflix

LeBron James’ Hustle seems to be gaining some momentum following a change in studio and some major casting news. According to insider Daniel Richtman, the film will now be released on Netflix with Adam Sandler set to star.
Feb. 14, 2018, Variety reported that Legendary Pictures landed the film following an intense bidding war. Now according to a new breakdown, the film has moved to Netflix. The film is being produced by James’ Springhill Entertainment and Roth/Kirschenbaum Films. Dave Meyers is signed on to direct from a script written by Taylor Materne.
According to the breakdown, Sandler has signed on in a supporting role as Bill Kennedy, a basketball coach, and local Chinese scout. Sandler’s character is a recovering alcoholic with a dark past that still dreams of being a head coach somewhere.

The film follows Alex Yang, a young steelworker in a Chinese village with serious talent who dreams of playing in the NBA. He leaves his grandparents and girlfriend behind after being discovered by Sandler’s Kennedy. Yang is thrown into the hype machine of pro basketball and must deal with being away from his family and village.
Currently, no one has been cast in the lead role, and it appears Sandler is the only talent attached to the project.
Production is eyeing a Summer 2020 shoot date, but given the current state of Hollywood in the wake of COVID-19, it seems likely this will be pushed back.
