HBO Announces ‘The Last of Us’ Series Is In The Works

The beloved Sony Playstation video game, The Last of Us, will be getting a live-action adaptation on the premium network soon.
According to THR, the creator of the critically acclaimed series Chernobyl Craig Mazin will be at the helm of the adaptation of The Last of Us, an iconic zombie apocalypse game franchise that is set to have its video game sequel release later this year.
Most surprisingly, Neil Druckmann, the writer and creator of the video game, is also on board to write and executive produce the series alongside Mazin. This series is also a co-production with Sony Pictures Television and will be the first television series for PlayStation Productions.

Released in 2013, the game’s story is an enthralling journey that centers around the relationship between protagonists Joel and Ellie, a hardened survivor who lost his daughter in the initial outbreak and a teenager whose blood could be the key to finding a cure. The Last of Us received global critical acclaim and won several Game of the Year awards from different publications.
This will evidently not be the first of many series from Sony Pictures Television Studios. Co-president Chris Parnell has stated that:
“This is the first of many shows we intend to develop with our friends at PlayStation Productions. The Last of Us is a brilliant achievement in storytelling and character development, and we are lucky to have the opportunity to work with this team to adapt it.”
Any time frame from the project remains unknown.
