Earlier this month, it was revealed that the Disney+ streaming service had a series based on the Tom Hanks film Turner & Hooch in development. At that time, Drake & Josh star Josh Peck was the only actor attached. However, as first reported by Deadline, Peck will be joined by Lyndsy Fonseca and Carra Patterson.
Fonseca is best known for her roles in TV shows like Agent Carter and Nikita. Additionally, Patterson can be seen on the big screen in films Straight Outta Compton and Why Did I Get Married Too?. Both actresses will reportedly co-star with Peck as the female leads in the upcoming series. Along with the new casting news, more information on the series has also surfaced. The series will focus on Peck’s Scott Turner, a buttoned-up former U.S. marshal who inherits a big, unruly dog, Hooch, from his now-deceased father.
Fonseca will play Laura, Scott Turner’s sister and the mother of 7-year-old Matthew with a soft spot for animals. She will serve as a catalyst for the series as it is her choice to bring Turner and Hooch together. Additionally, Patterson will portray Jessica, Scott Turner’s police partner, and a sharp contrast to his by-the-book tendencies.
The original film, which came out in 1989, was a variation of the buddy cop comedy genre. Police investigator Scott Turner, played by Hanks, winds up working alongside a dog named Hooch to solve crimes. Following a series of traumatic events, the two bond throughout a bevy of close-calls and wild hijinks.
No word yet on which famous pup will portray the canine pal Hooch. The series was originally created by Burn Notice Matt Nix with 20th Century Fox TV. However, following the studio’s acquisition by Disney, the series is now in development at Disney+.
The series will be written by Nix with Josh Levy (Bones) on-board as executive producer.
