‘The Sandman’: Audition Tape For The Corinthian Reveals Plot Details

It appears development on Netflix’s The Sandman is beginning to move forward. Recently, casting breakdowns for the series were revealed for both Morpheus and the Corinthian, but now an audition tape for the latter party has surfaced that may hold some plot details.
The clip features an actor trying for the part of the Corinthian who is reportedly reading actual lines from the series. In the tape, the actor playing the Corinthian is speaking to someone named Roderick, who can only be assumed to be Roderick Burgess, the man who originally captured Dream in the comics. In the comics, Burgess attempted to capture Death of the Endless in an attempt to gain immortality, but by accident, he trapped Dream. Burgess held Morpheus captive for 70 years, during which time the man passed away, and his son Alex Burgess took ownership of Dream.

What is interesting about this clip is that it appears the show will take some liberties with Neil Gaiman’s source material by making the Corinthian part of Dream’s capture. The Corinthian didn’t appear until The Sandman #10, well after Dream escaped from his imprisonment. But based on the clip above, it seems he will advise Burgess on how to keep his creator trapped outside of The Dreaming. In the comics, the Corinthian didn’t play a role in the capture of Morpheus, but it looks like this will be altered to help adapt the series for television.
