‘Loki’ Will Reportedly Feature The MCU’s First Transgender Character

In recent months, it’s been reported that Marvel Studios was looking to cast a transgender actor for a future MCU project. Well, that may be coming to fruition as The Illuminerdi claims that the role is for the Disney+ series Loki.
The new report seemingly confirms previous rumors that Marvel Studios is looking to cast an actor as Sera, a trans character in Marvel Comics. Sera will not only have a major supporting role in the series but may appear in future films as well.
Created by Kieron Gillen, Marguerite Bennett, and Phil Jimenez Sera first appeared in 2015’s Angela: Asgard’s Assassin #1. The character is an Anchorite, a group of male Angels who reside in Heven. Unlike the other Anchorites, Sera identifies as a woman making her one of the only major trans women in Marvel Comics. She plays a significant role in the Asgardian corner of the Marvel universe as she is in a relationship with Angela, the daughter of Odin.

As of now, no casting has been revealed as Loki is still in the early stages with filming to begin in a few months. The series will explore Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief like never before giving fans a look into the character that wasn’t possible with the films. It has been rumored the show will feature not only Loki but also a female version of the character. For now, though, that is all speculation but as production draws closer, expect to see more news surface.
