Full Circle’s Top Films Of The Decade

As the 2010s draw to a close, we at Full Circle decided to take a look back at our favorite movies from the last ten years. Take a look at each member’s favorite film from the last ten years as well as their favorite candle scent!
Jackson Hayes (A Child’s Wish) – The Social Network (2010)
“With a script that rivals any classic, The Social Network is a look at a monumental change within modern culture through the lens of a madman. There’s absolutely nothing to dislike about this film.”
Marcos Melendez (Cinnamon) – Whiplash (2014)
“Damien Chazelle’s breakout film immediately put him on the map as one of the best directors working today. Not one film in the past decade has the pure tensity that Chazelle brought to the table. Powerhouse performances from both Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons excel in bringing to life a toxic mentor-student relationship that has you on the edge of your seat every step of the way. The final 10-15 minutes are without a doubt one of the best endings to grace the screen in recent memory.”

Jacob Campbell (Cinnamon Bun) – The Avengers (2012)
“This was the movie that made me start to love superhero films and movies in general.”
James Preston Poole (Firewood) – Mandy (2018)
“Mandy is everything you want in a horror movie. It’s everything you want in a cinematic experience, period. A psychedelic, monstrous meditation on the cyclical nature of violence, it’s packed with a revolutionary visual style, demented characters, a moody score, and all-timer Nicolas Cage performance that puts it in a league of its own. It’s a film I will never stop coming back to, and one I never want to stop coming back to.”

Ileana Melendez (Pumpkin Spice) – Arrival (2016)
“It had me thinking about it for like a damn week and I ended up seeing it again.”
Christian Hubbard (Lavender) – Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
“This was difficult. The years and years of hype leading up to it was unlike anything I had ever felt and the state of unknown that consumed me afterwards created a movie-going experience that I’ve never felt before. Into The Spider-Verse is a close second.”

Kellen Murack (Toasted Marshmallow) – MacGruber (2010)
“This came out at that age where I’d discovered Saturday Night Live and thought it was the funniest thing ever and then seeing an SNL skit get turned into a movie was surreal. I was obsessed with this movie and have watched it no less than 15 times.”
JB Baker (Lavender) – The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)
“It was the movie that made me LOVE movies and travel. Completely turned me into the person I am today and I don’t know who I’d be without it!”
Danny O’Brien (Marshmallow Fireside) – Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)
“The Force Awakens gave the Star Wars franchise the hard earned relaunch it deserved. Audiences once again found themselves falling in love with the galaxy far, far away, myself included. To me, JJ Abrams’ long awaited sequel embodies everything about the joy of cinema. The magic was back, and it brought with it fresh new characters that future generations of Star Wars fans will adore for years to come.”

Collin Stetzner (Black Sandalwood) – Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)
“There certainly are better films out there this decade but, I’ve always loved Star Wars. It’s been a major part in my life since being a child. Nothing this decade though has compared to the feeling I got watching this movie for the first time in theaters, and still do this day has the record for most times I went to a theater to watch a movie! (7) Star Wars has brought me pure joy and ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ caps this trilogy and the Skywalker Saga off perfectly.”
Lucas Tabot (Tropical) – Fruitvale Station (2013)
“One of the most emotional, gut-punching storytelling films of this decade. Should have been nominated for best picture. Solid cast performance led by Michael B. Jordan, great creative direction from Ryan Coogler and was made on a very low budget.”
Kat Quinn (Elderberry) – The Man from U.N.C.L.E (2015)
“With a 2015 that was an unusually busy year for spy movies, it can be forgiven if this one fell beneath your radar. The Man From U.N.C.L.E unites Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer and Alicia Vikander in this cheeky (and undeniably sexy) spy caper as a trio of a CIA agent, a KGB operative and a German car mechanic to prevent nuclear war. Sure, the plot might be a bit predictable, but you’re not here for the plot! You’re here for the highly choreographed car chases, the beautiful fashion of the 1960s, and classic one-liners to spout off to your friends. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. knows exactly what type of movie it is: ridiculous, campy and just plain ol’ fun.”
Audrey Griffin (Gardenia) – Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
“In an era defined by reboots and reimaginings of classic films, none of them compare to Blade Runner 2049. Visually and narratively stunning, 2049 takes the question posed in the first film of what it means to be human to the next level. 2049 is bleak, beautiful, powerful sci-fi.”
Kevin Bond (Lavender) – Annihilation (2018)
“Natalie Portman is at her absolute best in the most unpredictable sci-fi flick I’ve seen. Kudos for being genuinely scarier than most horror films.”
Mark Tan (Lemon) – Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
“Every frame is to die for, and no other movie this decade has action scenes even half as good as the ones in here. Also, guitar flamethrower.”
Cleve Barber Jr. (Forrest) – Man of Steel (2013)
“It’s the perfect Superman story. It’s modern and a lot of people can relate to the story that Zack Snyder told. In the era that we live in, that film touched a lot of people.”
Jacqueline Lainez (Cinnamon Apple) – Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse (2018)
“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a film that deserves praises all around. This film was everything that embodied what it means to be Spider-Man. A story about Miles Morales becoming Spider-Man that was surprisingly dark for an animated kids movie. Each of the Spideys from the different universes taught us that it doesn’t matter who or what you are, each of us has the potential to be just like Spider-Man, with a leap of faith. Miles’ journey in learning this was everything you’d want to see in character development come a full 180. It’s truly unique.”
Daniel Hrncir (Anthropologie Volcano) – The VVitch (2015)
“I would like to think that I am this movie’s biggest fan. I own the original theatrical poster, a record signed by the composer, and a fancy online ceramics shirt. Go read my review on FCC before this blurb becomes an essay on why I love it so much. This one is guaranteed to be a delicious classic.”

Derek Flores (Sour Patch Kids) – Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie (2014)
“It’s not a perfect movie. It’s not even a good movie. It’s cheap effects, bad acting, and weird story is a testament to a dude who wanted to make a movie and then just did it.”
Here are some more films the team chose as their favorite of the decade:
Ernesto Valenzuela (Cherries on Snow) – Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
Katie Gilstrap (Apple Pumpkin) – Inception (2010)
Caleb Sadd (The Beach/Pine) – La La Land (2016) & Whiplash (2014)
Kenneth Colon (Mahogany) – La La Land (2016)
Dominic Dold (Cinnamon) – The Master (2012)
