First ‘The Batman’ Set Photos Feature Funeral Setting

Pre-production on Matt Reeves’s The Batman is currently underway, and it seems fans have their first look at the set. An image has revealed what appears to be a cathedral, most likely for a funeral.

A recent report revealed that the film was looking for extras for a large funeral scene in the movie, and this image supports that rumor. The Batman has constructed a large cathedral in Cardington for the scene. Fans of the animated series will notice the presence of airships outside of the cathedral. Blimps have appeared in various forms of media featuring Batman but were most prominent in Batman: The Animated Series, which some insiders have reported, will serve as inspiration for the film.

While the assumption is that the funeral will be for Thomas and Martha Wayne, some insiders have suggested this may not be the case as the film isn’t looking to retread old ground. The previous films featuring the caped crusader, including this year’s Joker, have included the infamous death scene so beating a dead horse is seemingly not on Matt Reeves’ mind.

Reeves’ The Batman will see Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne face off against prominent members of The Dark Knight’s rogues gallery. As of now, it has been confirmed we will see the Caped Crusader take on Colin Farrell’s The Penguin, Paul Dano’s The Ridler, Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman, and more villains that are yet to be revealed.
