Matt Reeves has added another star to the cast of The Batman. Earlier today, the director Tweeted a gif revealing that Green Lantern actor Peter Sarsgaard had boarded his highly anticipated Warner Bros. project.
This is the second casting Reeves has used social media to announce. Last month, he posted on his personal social media account that John Turturro would portray Carmine Falcone in The Batman.
Following Reeves’ tweet, some of the trades began speculating as to who the actor could be portraying. The two characters being thrown around are “Wasserman,” a corrupt cop, and Harvey Dent, who, of course, becomes the villain Two-Face.
Sarsgaard previously starred in such projects as Jarhead, Jackie, and 2011’s Green Lantern. He was most recently seen in Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven and Amazon’s 9/11 miniseries The Looming Tower.
The Batman is rumored to follow Bruce Wayne working a detective case regarding strange murders that occur all over Gotham. He’ll have to dig deep into the underworld of the city and its rich history to solve the conspiracy, one that puts all of the city’s villains as suspects.
Earlier this year, Robert Pattinson spoke with Variety in a tell-all interview about the film’s direction: “I really like Matt Reeves and his setup for it. This is an interesting direction. It’s something from the comics which hasn’t really been explored yet. It’s crazy shoes to fill. It is interesting the different directions you can take with it and that the, in some ways, quite a specific character actually has a lot of leeway. When you look at the different tones of the movies and TV shows, you can do quite a lot with it.”
