‘The Punisher’ Star Ben Barnes In Talks With Marvel Studios For New Role

Both seasons of Netflix’s The Punisher were highlighted by a violent rivalry. Frank Castle and his best friend-turned-enemy Billy Russo attempted to permanently end the other on a number of occasions. However, with Marvel Studios’ initiative to bring their heroes to the small screen via Disney+, these characters may never resurface.
However, the man who portrayed Russo AKA Jigsaw, Ben Barnes, recently revealed that he’s had discussions with Marvel Studios to join the larger MCU.
Speaking with Digital Spy, the actor discussed a future where he plays a second comic book character.
“I did talk to them about something this year, but it was a bit too close to doing The Punisher, I think, for them. But, you know, they have proof that you can. Particularly if it was on TV, you can go back and do a movie if there’s a character that’s right. I was definitely talking about a couple of superheroes last year.”

Barnes certainly impressed fans during his tenure on The Punisher. His ability to portray a vindictive villain dealing with memory loss and betrayal was one of the highlights of season 2. While it has been reported by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige was a big fan of Daredevil and Jessica Jones, it would not be surprising to hear that Barnes also gave a performance that stood out to him.
There is definitely plenty of Marvel characters that need to be cast with the overwhelming amount of content coming to the MCU. Thomas Polito of The GWW has speculated that Barnes could possibly be discussing the Moon Knight Disney+ series.
