‘Avengers: Endgame’ Writers Considered Making Rhodey Vice President

One of the first drafts of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame would’ve seen a significant career change for one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. In an interview with ComicBook.com, one of the film’s writers, Christoper Markus, revealed that in an early version of the script, Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes became Vice President of the United States.
“We took it out because it didn’t have any story weight, but I believe that during one draft, in the five-year-jump, Rhodey became Vice President,” Markus told ComicBook.com. “Vice President Rhodey.”
This change for Rhodey wouldn’t have been the first time a character in the MCU jumped the military ranks. In between his appearances in The Incredible Hulk and Captain America: Civil War, William Hurt’s Thunderbolt Ross went from general to Secretary of Defense.
