‘Titans’ S2, E6: “Conner” Review – Awwwww Krypto

“Conner Kent escapes from Cadmus Labs and emerge into the world for the first time as a free agent. With Krypto in tow, Conner’s search for the truth about his past leads him to Lionel Luthor (guest star PETER MacNEILL), Lex Luthor’s father, and Cadmus geneticist Eve Watson (guest star GENEVIEVE ANGELSON). Eve informs Conner of his true heritage and sends him on a path of self-discovery, examining his own identity and inherent impulses. In a moment of question, Conner chooses to act heroically and finds himself face-to-face with the Titans.” – TITANS season 2, episode 6 ‘Conner’ Synopsis
This is a non-spoiler review for the sixth episode of TITANS Season 2 ‘Conner’. Check out our spoiler review on our YouTube channel HERE or catch up with our review of the fifth episode, ‘Deathstroke’, HERE.
‘Conner’ explores the TITANS‘s backstory for the one and only Superboy. After making a cameo in season 1, there was a an intense wave of great feedback to include Superboy in the TITANS universe. Joshua Orpin was cast, and was a phenomenal move. ‘Conner’ picks up a couple days before ‘Deathstroke’. But this time, it explores Conner’s origins. The episode primarily works on incorporating Superboy’s backstory from the comics into TITANS. Fortunately, it does the adaptation very well.
By far, this is TITANS‘ best episode. ‘Conner’ incorporates the best emotional transformation, the best connection to a character we’ve seen to date. In addition, Krypto is another amazing part of this episode. Not only is he cute and cuddly, but he is also a weapon of mass destruction. Conner and Krypto’s interactions are the best. I love that Conner has the childlike innocence as he should. Also, there’s some incredible fight scenes between ‘Conner’ and CADMUS Labs’ personnel. While the CGI does struggle quite a bit, it’s really the only downside.
Natalie Gumede kills it as Mercy Graves, playing Lex Luthor’s right-hand woman with intensity, mirroring the comic book portrayal. I do have a question though. Is Conner resistant to kryptonite? If no, how does he rescue Krypto, cause he is in a kryptonite crate.
Rating: 9.5/10
