With production about to begin in one week in Vancouver, the cast for Snake Eyes is about to get bigger. According to THR, Samara Weaving will star alongside Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding in the G.I. Joe spinoff.
Weaving will be playing counter-intelligence officer, Scarlett. Scarlett was the first female member to join the G.I. Joe team. Scarlett has a special relationship with Snake Eyes as they have consistently partnered up for missions.
Weaving would be joining a cast that includes Golding in the titular role, Andre Koji as Storm Shadow, Iko Uwais as Hard Master and Ursula Cobero as the Baroness. Takehiro Hira recently joined the cast in an unknown role.
Divergent‘s Robert Schwentke is on board to direct the film. While Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner will serve as producers. Evan Spiliotopoulos penned the script for the spinoff. The production is also expected to shoot in Japan as well.
The story follows Golding’s Snake Eyes on a revenge mission for his father’s death. Snake Eyes joins a ninja clan, and in the process, eventually comes to terms with accepting his father’s death. This is not the first time we have seen Scarlett on the big screen. Rachel Nichols previously starred in the role in 2009’s G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra.
Weaving recently appeared in one of the surprise hits of this summer, Ready or Not. The horror film went on to make over $50 million at the box office worldwide while on a $6 million budget.
