‘Hamilton’ Star Daveed Diggs In Talks To Join ‘The Little Mermaid’ As Sebastian
Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid is shaping up to be one of the studio’s most memorable. As first reported by Variety, Daveed Diggs is in talks to join the cast as Ariel’s loyal crab servant Sebastian.
Diggs rose to fame due to his dual role as Thomas Jefferson and Marquis de Lafayette in the groundbreaking Broadway musical Hamilton. For this role, the actor received Tony and Grammy Awards. However, he has made the switch over to film in movies like Ferdinand, Blindspotting, and Velvet Buzzsaw. In addition to The Little Mermaid, Diggs will also voice a character in Pixar’s upcoming animated feature Soul.

Additionally, Diggs’ connection to The Little Mermaid would reunite him with the creator of Hamilton Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda is collaborating with Alan Menken on the original music for the film.
Sebastian is a Jamaican crab in the original animated feature who steals the show with songs “Under the Sea” and “Kiss The Girl.” Diggs’ background in hip hop and broadway would undoubtedly put a modern, more upbeat spin on the two classics.
He would join Halle Bailey, who was recently cast in the starring role of Ariel in the upcoming remake. Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy, Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay have also been rumored for the cast.
