‘The Rookie’ Star Nathan Fillion To Join James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’

Nathan Fillion will be teaming with director James Gunn for another comic book movie. The 48-year-old actor will be joining Gunn in Warner Bros.’ The Suicide Squad. Fillion’s role in the spiritual sequel is unknown at this time.
Fillion is best known for his role as the fan-favorite Captain Malcolm ‘Mal’ Reynolds in Firefly. He and Gunn are long-time friends and will be working together for the third time with The Suicide Squad. Fillion played the voice of the big prison inmate in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
The Firefly star was also close to playing Wonder Man in a flashback scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but it was scrapped. In the meantime, Fillion will be returning to ABC with its second season of The Rookie coming September 29.

The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
The film stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis As Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, David Dastmalchian as Polka Dot Man, John Cena as Peacemaker, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher with Idris Elba and Storm Reid in undisclosed roles.
