Marvel Studios Reportedly Eyeing Ludi Lin For ‘Shang-Chi’

We may be one step closer to learning who will portray the Master of Kung Fu. According to Charles Murphy at That Hashtag Show, Marvel Studios is eyeing Ludi Lin for the titular role in Shang-Chi. The casting process for the Destin Daniel Cretton-helmed film is still in its early stages, but THS reports that Lin is a name that Kevin Feige is interested in meeting with for the role.
Lin is best known for playing Zack Taylor, the Black Ranger, in the 2017 Power Rangers reboot and the underwater warrior Murk in Aquaman. His other credits include Netflix’s Marco Polo and the 2015 Chinese-Hong Kong adventure Monster Hunt. Recently, Lin appeared alongside Anthony Mackie and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the Black Mirror episode “Striking Vipers.”

During the promotional tour for Aquaman, Lin expressed interested in playing Shang-Chi. “It’s definitely something I want to do. To do an Asian-centric superhero. To tell that story. I mean ideally, I’d like to design my own superhero, make my own creation,” Lin told ScreenRant. “But I think the Marvel world is pretty incredible as well. Especially in honor of Stan Lee, the person who created this entire, I mean like an entire universe. You know what I mean? It’s pretty incredible. And I think it would be great because it would take another big step towards representation.”
Created by Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin, Shang-Chi first appeared in Special Marvel Edition #15 in 1973. In the years since, he’s been a member of the Avengers, Heroes for Hire, Secret Avengers, and Marvel Knights. Shang-Chi is a master of numerous unarmed and weaponry-based wushu styles, including the use of the gùn, nunchaku and jian.
