Joaquin Phoenix Reportedly Eyed For Captain Hook In Disney’s ‘Peter Pan & Wendy’

Disney’s upcoming live-action film Peter Pan & Wendy is shaping up to be a rather ambitious project. Last week, it was reported that Birds of Prey star Margot Robbie was offered the role of Tinker Bell for the film. Now, as first reported by The Illuminerdi, Walt Disney Pictures reportedly has their eyes on Joker star Joaquin Phoenix for the role of Captain Hook.
Phoenix is currently in the midst of sweeping every major Awards show. His role in Joker has earned him Best Actor wins at the Golden Globes, BAFTA, and SAG awards. Next, the actor will contend for Bext Actor at the upcoming 92nd Academy Awards. However, the performer has never teamed with Disney for a big memorable role.

Captain Hook has long been a thorn in the side of Peter Pan and Wendy. Additionally, he appears in every adaptation of Peter Pan, including films, TV shows, and stage productions. Most recently, the pirate was played by Christopher Walken in NBC’s Peter Pan Live! and Garrett Hedlund in 2015’s Pan.
Peter Pan & Wendy will begin principal photography in Canada this April. The film will be directed by David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon) and written along with Toby Halbrooks (A Ghost Story). Disney hopes to strike overwhelming box office success again following the stellar performance of 2019’s The Lion King and Aladdin. Recent rumors suggest the film will stream exclusively on Disney+.
