Destin Daniel Cretton Set To Helm Live-Action ‘Naruto’ Film
Lionsgate has tapped some star talent to handle their long-gestating live-action Naruto film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton will pen and helm the adaptation.
Created by Masashi Kishimoto, Naruto was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1999 to 2014. One of the best-selling manga series of all time, it spawned a beloved anime series and included a number of films, video games, and novels. The series follows the titular Naruto Uzumaki, who dreams of leading the ninja village of Konoho as Hokage. But he must overcome the spirit of the nine-tailed demon fox sealed within him.

The director has already received the blessing of Kishimoto, who gave it to him during the former’s visit to Tokyo.
“When I heard of Destin’s attachment, it happened to be right after watching a blockbuster action film of his, and I thought he would be the perfect director for Naruto,” said Kishimoto in a statement. “After enjoying his other films and understanding that his forte is in creating solid dramas about people, I became convinced that there is no other director for Naturo. In actually meeting Destin, I also found him to be an open-minded director who was willing to embrace my input, and felt strongly that we would be able to cooperate together in the production process.”
Cretton is set to produce alongside Jeyun Munford through his company, Hisako. They join Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Emmy Yu of Arad Productions, and Jeremy Latcham.
