Live-Action ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ Casts Hiccup & Astrid
Universal’s live-action How to Train Your Dragon feature adaptation has cast its first stars. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mason Thames and Nico Parker have joined the project as Hiccup and Astrid.
Originally a successful children’s book series written by Cressida Cowell, the franchise spawned a trilogy of animated feature films from DreamWorks Animation. The story follows a young Viking named Hiccup who wishes to become a dragon slayer and gain the admiration of his village. But after a run-in with a rare Night Fury, he befriends the dragon and finds that Vikings and dragons could be more than enemies.
Dean DeBlois, the filmmaker behind the original animated trilogy, is set to return as writer, director, and producer of the new adaptation. Development is already underway on the film, with a release date of March 14, 2025, already set.
Thames is best known for his role in Universal’s horror film The Black Phone from director Scott Derrickson. Parker most recently appeared in HBO’s The Last of Us as Sarah.
