Jack Dylan Grazer, Joel Edgerton & More In Talks For Live-Action ‘How To Train Your Dragon’

It looks like Universal has begun assembling the cast for their live-action How to Train Your Dragon adaptation. According to insider Daniel Richtman, Jack Dylan Grazer, Aulii Cravalho, and Joel Edgerton are in talks to star in the project.
Grazer has been offered the role of Hiccup, the young Viking that ultimately befriends the dragons and saves his village. Cravalho is in talks for Astrid, the female Viking warrior, and Hiccup’s love interest. And lastly, Edgerton is in negotiations for the role of Stoick, the leader of the island of Berk and Hiccup’s father.

Dean DeBlois, the filmmaker behind the original animated trilogy, is set to return as writer, director, and producer of the new adaptation. Development is already underway on the film, with a release date of March 14, 2025, already set.
Originally a successful children’s book series written by Cressida Cowell, the franchise spawned a trilogy of animated feature films from DreamWorks Animation. The story follows a young Viking named Hiccup who wishes to become a dragon slayer and gain the admiration of his village. But after a run-in with a rare Night Fury, he befriends the dragon and finds that Vikings and dragons could be more than enemies.
